Judy Hyman Music

With roots in classical training, traditional fiddle music, and modern rock, Judy Hyman composes music for film, television, and multi-media. Judy wrote the music for several Florentine Films/Hott Production documentaries, including Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America and John James Audubon: Drawn from Nature.

Judy composed several musical cues for Rising Voices/Hótȟaŋiŋpi, including the two pieces that accompany the historical sections on Indian boarding schools. Piano and clarinet are a sharp contrast to the indigenous flute and voice heard in many other parts of the film. The tune and instrumentation in these two cues underscore the experiences Lakota children had as they were taken out of their homes and sent away to institutions that were entirely unfamiliar to them.
